Buzz Aldrin are a Bologna-based trio formed by Nico, Gelo & Giallo in 2008.
The band released a demo with 5 tracks in 2008 and it didn’t take long until they gained a cult following among young post-punk, new wave and garage fans and critics.
Soon after Buzz Aldrin got signed to Secret Furry Hole (a tape label run by Jukka Reverberi from the band Giardini di Mirò and Tommaso Belletti) and released a limited edition (only 100 copies) homemade tape containing 6 new tracks.
The band recorded its eponymous debut album at Outside Recording Studio in June 2010. The album was recorded by Nene, who plays bass with two of the most exciting Italian garage bands, Movie Star Junkies and Vermillion Sands, and was mastered by Carl Saff at Mastering Studio in Chicago, IL.
The album will be released by two of the most important Italian indie labels, Ghost Records (home to Hot Gossip, The Mojomatics, Calibro 35) and Unhip Records (home to Disco Drive, Settlefish, The Zen Circus).
The album is full of hauntingly energetic tracks, which both embrace their post- punk/new wave (“Giant Rabbits Are Looking At The sun”) and shoegaze (“Enter”) influences, and of adrenaline, building with a frantic drum roll and escalating to a crazy tapping that makes you want to get up dance wildly (“White Church”).
Obvious reference points are scattered throughout the record as the band joyfully swipes from The Wire, early Suicide throughout while putting their signature sound on each of the nine tracks.
Buzz Aldrin excels at creating a sinister and dark melodic assault and must absolutely be seen play live.
